The Indian Prairie Educational Foundation and District 204 presented the A+ Award to four staff members at the IPEF's recent Inspire 204 event at Wentz Concert Hall.

Heidi Provost, a 5th grade teacher at Spring Brook Elementary School was nominated by two parents, Margaret Foye and Arwen Lynch. Both nominations praised Provost for personally getting to know each and every student, working on their strengths and appreciating their differences. Lynch wrote, “Mrs. Provost instills a sense of wonder and excitement about learning. She makes every student feel like they are her favorite.” Provost is also known for riding her bike to each student’s home in August to welcome them to her class.

Janice Hums has been a 5th grade teacher at Welch Elementary School since the building opened in 1999. Former student and Neuqua Valley Alumnus (’14) Matt Coffman returned from college at Indiana University to surprise Hums on stage at Inspire 204. In his nomination essay, he shared that Hums taught him no challenge is too hard and no obstacle is too difficult to overcome. “Words can’t really describe the difference Mrs. Hums made in my life. You not only made me a better student, but helped mold me into the young man I am today.”

Emily Binder, a music teacher at Neuqua Valley High School, was nominated by student Matt Valiga. He said Binder’s dedication sparked his passion for music and he wouldn’t be anywhere near the person he is today without her help and encouragement. “Mrs. Binder has helped me realize what is important in life, and has taught all of us to appreciate and soak up everything life has to offer.”

Terence White, a 7th grade science teacher at Still Middle School, was nominated by parent Jinfeng Wang. In her nomination essay she shared how White was not afraid to challenge her son. “Mr. White told me my son was a bright kid, but that he didn’t put forth his best effort. He was the first teacher to talk to me about it. He always encourages my son to improve the quality of his work and avoid taking short cuts.” White also coaches her son, Andrew, in basketball.

Wells Fargo Advisors have partnered with IPEF and District 204 to help recognize staff members for making a difference for students. To celebrate these outstanding staff members, Wells Fargo Advisors has donated $500 to each of these staff members to use in his or her school.
