The Indian Prairie Educational Foundation and District 204 honored Katie Ammons, a kindergarten teacher at Steck Elementary School, with the A+ Award.

Parent Susan Sangwa shared her thoughts on the important role of kindergarten teachers in her nomination. “There are no words to express the profound impact a student’s first teacher has on his or her educational path and creating a love for learning.”
“Mrs. Ammons has exceeded every expectation,” Sangwa said. “Sending our first child off to school was a very emotional time, but Mrs. Ammons put to ease any concern we had. I know teachers at every grade are important and educators’ endless efforts deserve more recognition than they get. This year, Mrs. Ammons has given me an entirely new appreciation for those we entrust our youngest learners with.”
Ammons has been teaching in District 204 for 12 years. She was previously a second-grade teacher and moved to kindergarten two years ago.
“I always knew I was destined to be a teacher,” Ammons said. “I never expected to be recognized with something like this.”
Wells Fargo Advisors is partnering with IPEF and District 204 to help recognize one staff member each month for making a difference for students. To celebrate these outstanding staff members, Wells Fargo Advisors is donating $500 for the staff member to use in his or her school.
You can nominate a staff member for next month's award at A+ Award.
