This is an update to the news item posted on May 10, 2016 regarding proactively testing water for lead in each of the district's 35 buildings. The district hired Environ, an environmental consulting firm, to conduct water tests once classes ended on May 26, 2016. A total of 633 individual samples were taken by Environ. At each location, one sample was taken at the "first draw" (after first turning the water on in the morning), and a second sample was taken after letting the water run for a short period of time. Samples were taken throughout each building, making sure testing was done at water fountains and sinks where water was likely to be consumed.
Of the 633 samples taken, 1.3 percent (8 locations) required follow-up testing. An additional 44 samples were taken. Follow-up testing showed that one location, a water fountain at Clow Elementary School, needed to be replaced. That work was completed before school started. To be prudent, additional samples were taken at the newly installed water fountain, which showed normal results.
After analyzing a total of 694 samples, Environ concluded no further testing was needed and there were no further areas of concern.
