Board Approves Chief Technology Officer

District 204's Board of Education approved the recommendation to hire Adam Smeets as Chief Technology Officer. Smeets will take over for Stan Gorbatkin, who is retiring at the end of the 2017-18 school year.

Since 2014, Smeets has worked to support all facets of technology at Dominican University. He held the position of Director, University Systems & Academic Services before being named Assistant Vice President and Deputy Chief Information Officer. During his time at Dominican, he has been in charge of the strategic management and direction of all IT programs, services and policies for the university. Under his leadership, the technology department developed and maintained continuous efforts to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and streamline work processes while providing quality services to students and faculty.

Prior to joining Dominican, Smeets managed digital media for Loyola University and served as the Assistant Director of Technology for University of Delaware.

He earned his bachelor's degree from Loyola University and his master's degree from University of Delaware. Smeets is currently working toward his doctoral degree at Loyola University.
