"I love that the children get an extra opportunity to read aloud and practice their reading fluency, but I also like that the generations come together and spend time together."— Maureen Sharpe, Parent Volunteer
The Rockin' Readers program invites residents of Villa St. Benedict Senior Living Facility to come to Brooks Elementary School and read with students one-on-one. The program started because teachers were looking for ways to give students more opportunities to read aloud and extend the school into the community. What began as a reading fluency program has grown into so much more as senior citizens and students bridge the age gap with each visit.
