First Day of School

The first day of school is Monday, August 19, 2019. This year's school calendar is online at 2019-20 Calendar. Please note, legislative changes allowed the Board of Education to revise the 2019-20 school calendar to eliminate the half days that were designated for school improvement and teacher work days. The days have been combined to create full days off for students. The start of school remains August 19, 2019 and classes are still set to tentatively end on May 28, 2020 if no emergency days are used.

School Supplies

School supply lists for elementary and middle school students are online at School Supplies.

Transportation

Bus route information will be available in Home Access Center no later than August 12.

Please know that the start of each school year brings with it the potential for some overcrowding on buses. During the first few weeks of school, especially on high school bus routes, rider counts fluctuate as students explore their various methods of transportation. We ask for your patience as bus drivers and school administrators take daily head counts of high volume routes and adjustments are made to route assignments. Please allow at least 10 minutes for a late bus before calling your school.

Answers to common transportation questions are online at Transportation FAQ. If you have further questions regarding transportation, please contact your school.

Bus Rider Reminders

BUS STOP TIMES: Your child’s route will be assigned an approximate pick-up and drop-off time. This time may change. Times can vary during the first week and usually a routine is established after the first two weeks.

STUDENT ID: Make sure your child has his or her student ID when riding the bus. It should include home and daycare information and bus letter/route on the back.

BUS STOP: Show your child where the bus stop is and how to walk home from the bus stop from all possible directions to avoid confusion.

WRONG BUS: Teach your child to tell the bus driver if they believe they are on the wrong bus. Have a conversation about what to do if they get off at the wrong stop or if someone is not home when they arrive. Make sure your child knows they should walk directly home after school unless an alternate plan was discussed. Parents may become worried if children simply stop to play at a neighbor’s house on their way home from the bus stop without letting parents know in advance.

RIDING ANOTHER BUS: Students are only allowed to ride their assigned bus. Friends riding with friends on an unassigned bus will not be allowed.

ITEMS NOT ALLOWED ON THE BUS: Have a conversation with your child about making good choices about what can be brought on the bus. Hazardous materials of any kind will not be allowed and student discipline will occur.

Food Service

The district uses PushCoin for online payments. Payments can be made on a student's lunch account by sending cash or check (payable to IPSD 204) to the school office, or online at pushcoin.com. The District encourages all families to register at no charge at pushcoin.com where you can sign up for automatic alerts and view your student's lunch account. For a small processing fee, credit card payments can also be made directly to a student's account through PushCoin. Information on setting up your account is at PushCoin Help.

OrganicLife is the district's food service provider. OrganicLife meals are based on preparing food from "scratch" using basic ingredients rather than buying prepared meals. The company's philosophy is to combine the highest quality ingredients with chef-driven menus, embrace ecologically sound practices, and advocate for "greens, grains, and all things nutritious." The Chicago-based company strives to deliver restaurant quality meals. More information and menus can be found online.

Health Services Reminder

The Department of Health Services reminds parents that the required State of Illinois Certificate of Child Health Examination and Immunization form can be found online at Health Services. Information about requirements was included in this year's registration packet. Students' immunization status and physicals will be reviewed by Registered Nurses and School Nurses. Parents will be notified of any deficiencies. Per State law, if requirements are not met, students will be excluded from school starting on Tuesday, October 15, 2019. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact your school's health office.
