Online Academy High School Course Offerings

Why aren’t all high school courses offered in the Online Academy?

On June 23, 2020, the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Department of Public Health released guidance for school districts on reopening schools. That guidance stated school districts should prioritize in-person instruction while following health precautions to keep students and staff safe. District 204 followed the state guidance and created the A/B/C Schedule for the fall semester, but also created the Online Academy option for families who were not comfortable sending their child to school.

Due to staffing limits, it is impossible to duplicate the high school course catalogue in its entirety in the Online Academy. Administrators worked to offer a variety of courses, including honors and AP, with an emphasis on graduation requirements. While we wish we could offer every single class this fall in the Online Academy, we do not have staffing capacity to duplicate all courses for both the in-person and online option.

The Return to School Parent Handbook has a list of all high school courses offered in the Online Academy. Parents are advised to review the handbook carefully before choosing the option that is best for their family for the fall semester.
