The Indian Prairie Educational Foundation and District 204 honored Lynne White, Granger Middle School LMC Director, as the April A+ Award recipient.

You can watch the A+ Award team's surprise visit to recognize White for "Making a Difference" at A+ Award video.

Known as the "White House," Granger’s LMC has taken on the feel of a cozy bookstore according to parent Carolyn Fichte who nominated White. From comfy chairs and colorful posters to showcased books and a special ‘hot read’ section, it’s a welcoming atmosphere. “If you step into it, you can’t help but want to grab a book, sit down and get reading!”

White also received a nomination from 7th grader Chloe Beach. Both Beach and Fichte wrote about the incredible love for books that White is able to masterfully impart upon students with all reading tastes. “She is amazing. She recommends books to me that I would never have read on my own,” wrote Beach.

White admits she is an avid reader and credits her love for books as her secret for getting students interested in literacy. “Because I read, I can connect students, book talk and figure out what they might like.”

Granger students have also become accustomed to an amazing array of author visits that are brought to the school each year thanks to a partnership White has developed with Anderson’s Bookstore. Beach has found each author visit to be memorable. “These authors did not just talk to us about their books, they each had their own unique message. ‘Be who you want to be’ (Jason Segal), ‘You have to fail to succeed’ (Jennifer Nelson), and ‘Writing isn’t just about putting things on paper’ (Adam Gidwitz).”

“She may call the authors who visit the school literary rock stars, but she is Granger’s #1 literacy rock star and teacher,” Fichte said.
White began her career in District 204 in 1993 as a Language Arts teacher. She has been Granger’s LMC Director since 2011.

Wells Fargo Advisors have partnered with IPEF and District 204 to help recognize one staff member each month for making a difference for students. To celebrate these outstanding staff members, Wells Fargo Advisors donates $500 for the staff member to use in his or her school.
