The following message was sent by phone to Metea Valley High School parents by Principal Darrell Echols on May 2, 2016:
I want to let you know about an incident that occurred at school today. Students reported a rumor to our staff members about another student bringing a handgun to school. We immediately contacted the Aurora Police and found that one student did have an unloaded handgun in his backpack. The student was not in possession of any bullets, and at no time were any students threatened or harmed. We appreciate that our students acted responsibly and immediately notified us so we could take action. District 204 takes this situation very seriously and disciplinary action is occurring. Please discuss with your child the importance of making good decisions to keep our school safe. Thank you for your continued support.
