Whether she's training for the half marathon for Team Gregory/IPEF, volunteering in the classroom, beautifying the school entrance with flowers or leading the PTA, Tiffani Gaar is always ready to lend a hand to make Gregory Middle School a welcoming place for everyone. Because of her many years of dedication, Tiffani is being recognized as the District 204 BMO Harris Bank Volunteer of the Month.
"I am so humbled and surprised by this honor," Tiffani said. "I volunteer because it gives me great pleasure to give back to the teachers, administrators, other faculty and volunteers in the buildings that give so much to my children."
When her family moved to Naperville from Florida in 2010, volunteering at Spring Brook Elementary School was a great way to meet other families and learn more about the district. When her children began attending Gregory Middle School, she continued to volunteer with the PTA, first as vice president and then as president, in addition to being the IPPC representative. She also helps in the Library Media Center, as a class parent volunteer, previous tailgate chair and fundraising chair. She is passionate about POWer (Powerful Outstanding Women), which she has co-chaired at Gregory since 2014.
"This program teaches young girls to believe in themselves, discover their unique gifts and talents, build self-esteem and spread kindness to others," she said.
Gregory Principal Steve Severson noted that, "Tiffani has always been available to take on tasks herself and to find others to help. She is always adding to Gregory to make it better."
"Volunteering in the schools is important to me because teachers and students need the positive support of our entire community to be successful," Tiffani said. "Even if you can't be in the classroom or building, or buying that cookie dough, send an email telling your teacher he/she rocks! Words are a powerful tool and that kind of kindness is worth so much to them as well."
BMO Harris Bank is helping District 204 recognize one volunteer each month who has generously given his or her time to support District 204's students and schools. To celebrate these outstanding volunteers, BMO Harris Bank is donating $1,000 to the volunteer's school. To nominate an outstanding volunteer, visit http://www.ipsd.org/Subpage.aspx/Volunteer.
